The Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Newmarket Mules at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Portsmouth Christian Academy will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Pittsfield on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 14-0 shutout. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Cai Summers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Summers was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Landon Hasty and Andrew Earwood did most of the damage at the plate: Hasty went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Earwood went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was Earwood's first of the season. Zech Beal was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Portsmouth Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Newmarket made easy work of Wilton-Lyndeborough on Wednesday and carried off a 16-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mules, who have now won three games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Portsmouth Christian Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Newmarket, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Portsmouth Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Newmarket when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 12-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
