Emory Cheng made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Headley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Katie Torrez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kennedy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.8.
Fullerton came out on top against Segerstrom on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Indians never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Katelynn Mathews, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Segerstrom off the board.
On the hitting side, Ava Flores was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Naia Su'e also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Fullerton's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, their record is now 10-14.
