Baseball Recap: Central Has No Trouble Against Hillcrest

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kickapoo, Central was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Hillcrest Hornets 14-5. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Barrett Burns, who went 4-for-6 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-14 when he doesn't). Brody Holland was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-14. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will head out to face off against Conway at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hillcrest, they will venture away from home to square off against Webb City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
