It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Granada Matadors can now relate to. They suffered a tough 40-18 loss at the hands of Rancho Cotate on Friday. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Granada struggled afterwards.
Granada's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Quinn Boyd, who threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
Rancho Cotate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Pruitt out in front who rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 112 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Geovanny Ortiz, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Granada's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Rancho Cotate, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Granada does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Rancho Cotate is on the road again on Friday and play against Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Windsor is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
