Baseball Recap: Aztec Has No Trouble Against Shiprock

Aztec won the last time they faced Shiprock and things went their way on Thursday too. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Chieftains. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Dalton Wilmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Aztec got a massive performance out of Cory Douglas, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs Douglas has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kale Watson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Aztec always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Aztec's record is now 9-13. As for Shiprock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
