The Trinity Catholic Celtics will head out on the road to face off against the First Baptist Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Trinity Catholic walked away with it. They blew past the Hustlers 38-14. Trinity Catholic's win was all the more impressive since Melbourne Central Catholic was averaging only 14.58 points allowed on the season.
Austin Holder was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Gerald "Juice" Lawton III also helped out with an impressive 99 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, First Baptist Academy had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Moore Haven 35-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as First Baptist Academy just coasted through the last quarter.
First Baptist Academy relied on the efforts of Winston Watkins jr., who gained 86 total yards and three touchdowns, and Sam Sparacio, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Trinity Catholic's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7. As for First Baptist Academy, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Trinity Catholic lost to First Baptist Academy on the road by a decisive 21-3 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Trinity Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
