On Saturday, the Lowry Buckaroos faced the North Valleys Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lowry breezed by North Valleys at home to the tune of 63-36. Considering Lowry has won five matchups by more than 23 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Lowry to victory were Britain Backus and Savannah Stoker. Backus scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals, while Stoker almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Backus has scored at least 25% of Lowry's points. Bryce Brinkerhoff was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Lowry and bumps their season record up to 8-2. As for North Valleys, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lowry will square off against South Tahoe at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully South Tahoe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Tuesday. North Valleys will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Reno at 1:45 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
