Baseball Game Preview: St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders vs. Pequot Lakes Patriots

St. Cloud Cathedral is a perfect 5-0 against Pequot Lakes since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Pequot Lakes took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Cloud Cathedral, who comes in off a win.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times St. Cloud Cathedral and Little Falls have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Crusaders walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Flyers. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Flyers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jacob Oliver was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Oliver was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, Pequot Lakes didn't have quite enough to beat Upsala/Swanville on Tuesday and fell 3-1. Pequot Lakes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. Cloud Cathedral's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.1 runs this season. As for Pequot Lakes, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

St. Cloud Cathedral was able to grind out a solid victory over Pequot Lakes in their previous matchup on April 8th, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
