Marion Gamble spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Allison Yeary was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Livy Huter was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Madison County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, North Jackson lost 8-2 to Plainview on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Chiefs in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.
Allie Benson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed over her last five contests. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Benson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayleigh Greenway, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Madison County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Jackson, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
Madison County took their victory against North Jackson in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
