Monterey is 9-1 against Pacific Grove since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dores will be playing at home against the Breakers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monterey has five straight wins, Pacific Grove has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Monterey came out on top against Palma on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Dores put the hurt on the Chieftains with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Dores have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Nicole Seal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits.
At the plate, Denae Lee was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Ryanna Elliott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Monterey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Pacific Grove came up short against Salinas on Thursday and fell 7-3. That's two games in a row now that the Breakers have lost by exactly four runs.
Pacific Grove saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isis Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Monterey's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Pacific Grove, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Pacific Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monterey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Pacific Grove, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Monterey's hitters?
Monterey got the 'W' when the teams last played on March 4th against Pacific Grove by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Dores have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Breakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
