On Tuesday, the Valley Vista Monsoon faced the Desert Vista Thunder in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Valley Vista suffered a rough 64-43 defeat at the hands of Desert Vista. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Valley Vista has scored all season.
Valley Vista's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tysyn Johnson, who scored 11 points. The contest was Johnson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Deja Strong was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Valley Vista struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Eanae Dagons continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Desert Vista, scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. Those eight rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Shay Ijiwoye, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Valley Vista bumped their record down to 7-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Desert Vista, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Valley Vista will head out on the road to face off against Tolleson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Desert Vista, they will take on Woodgrove at 8:50 p.m. on Friday. Woodgrove is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
