Basketball Recap: Highland Falls Despite Big Games from Cooper Young and Jayden Collins

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost to the Shelby Whippets on the road by a 65-50 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Scots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-53 back in December of 2024.

Highland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Collins, who posted nine points, and Cooper Young, who had ten points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Collins a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Toby Rogers, who earned seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Highland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Shelby, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Highland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-50 defeat against KIPP Columbus on the 25th. As for Shelby, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-48 win against Madison Comprehensive on the 25th.
