Black Diamond recap September 17, 2013
Derek Greifzu of Fairfield ran for the longest rushing play in Black Diamond this season against Elverado/Trico last week. Greifzu scampered for 74 yards on the play and finished with 195 on the day as his team topped the Falcons.
Eldorado moved up to 303 from 350 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to make move up by besting Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton 48-6.
Joseph Rodgers and Greifzu gave Fairfield a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Colton Land also contributed to the rushing game with 68 yards on the ground.
Rodgers and Greifzu gave Justin Townsend's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.
Greifzu was the best running back in the league this week.
Rodgers put up the best numbers in passing as the Mules topped Elverado/Trico. He had a total of 1 completions for 18 yards.
Brad Asselmeier was the best wideout in Black Diamond this week as Chester defeated Sesser-Valier/Waltonville/Woodlawn. Asselmeier racked up 3 receptions for 52 yards.
Greifzu provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Fairfield bested Mike McElroy's team.
The Yellowjackets' Jake Lochhead and Asselmeier have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Lochhead has thrown for 214 yards this season, while Asselmeier has 5 catches for 135 yards. Greifzu from the Mules leads the league in rushing with 388 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fairfield takes on Vienna/Goreville. The Mules are in first place, while the Eagles are in fourth place.
Carmi-White County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Bulldogs vanquished Johnston City 46-20 earlier in the week.
