Basketball Recap: Animo Venice Takes a Loss

If Animo Venice was riding high fresh off their 87-59 takedown of New West Charter last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Animo Venice Pirates had to suffer through a 71-32 loss at the hands of the Santa Monica Vikings. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-14.

Animo Venice's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Judah Elliot Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Animo Venice's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Matthew Jose was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight boards and six assists.

With the loss, Animo Venice broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-7. As for Santa Monica, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Animo Venice will welcome Vistamar at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Monica, they will head out to square off against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Monica is facing Centennial at the right time seeing as Centennial is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
