It was a good run, but the Telluride Miners unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a hard 73-59 fall against Crested Butte. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Miners players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Townes Merritt, who scored 16 points. Merritt hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Grayson Berry was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.
Crested Butte's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Weston Miller, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Davis, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Telluride's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Crested Butte, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Telluride and Mancos will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mancos is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Crested Butte, they will be playing at home against Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Center will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 315th, while Crested Butte is ranked 77th).
