Section 1 AA recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Scarsdale, who took down 128th ranked Clarkstown South, 27-6.
Ramapo moved up to 273 from 299 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 1 AA. The Gryphons were able to make move up by beating Ketcham 40-32.
Chris Gragnani and Georgio Cineus gave Suffern a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Gragnani threw for 129 yards and one touchdown, while Cineus ran for 156 yards. Teammate Gragnani added to the ground attack by rushing for 24 yards.
Jason Harrand was the best wideout in the league this week as Arlington defeated Mt. Vernon. Harrand tallied four receptions for 64 yards. Jayson Leigh helped Arlington's passing attack out by catching three balls for 31 yards.
The Mounties' Gragnani and Richie Horowitz have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gragnani has thrown for 1227 yards this season, while Horowitz, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 22 catches for 384 yards. Robby Nigro from Mamaroneck leads the league in rushing with 691 yards.
The top two teams in Section 1 AA will face off this week when first place North Rockland takes on second place New Rochelle. North Rockland defeated the Tigers last week, while New Rochelle beat John Jay.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Raiders take on the Huguenots. North Rockland has allowed 50 points this season, while New Rochelle has given up 34. Tom Lynch's team allowed 7 points last week as it defeated Mamaroneck.
The Huguenots were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting the Patriots. New Rochelle came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
