The Bristol Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Calvary Christian Academy Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Bristol came out on top against Plumstead Christian on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Warriors walked away with a 12-8 win over Plumstead Christian. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Trae Anthony was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Conner Appshire was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Bristol always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plumstead Christian only posted an OBP of .353.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy got the win against Jenkintown on Wednesday by a conclusive 18-1. Considering the Cougars have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Nathan Flasnburg was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Calvary Christian Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Flasnburg was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Jackson Cardinal was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Leader, who earned two RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Calvary Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Bristol, their record is now 10-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bristol hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Calvary Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Bristol's way against Calvary Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in April, as Bristol made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
