Softball Recap: Houston's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

Houston lost to Brighton back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Cardinals.

Madeleine McClure spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Lindsey Barnes was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylea Howell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Houston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brighton only posted a batting average of .222.

Houston's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-13. As for Brighton, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-10-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Houston will face off against Gibson County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Pioneers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Brighton, they will welcome Dyersburg at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
