Softball Recap: Albany Takes a Loss

Albany extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They lost 22-0 to the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans. The Falcons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

For Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's part, Ava Yahoudy and Jessica Stusinski were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Yahoudy pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stusinski struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Yahoudy has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Yahoudy went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Stusinski got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That's the most RBI Yahoudy has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Emily Martin and Grace Adone did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Adone went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Alverson, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albany will square off against Shenendehowa at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Plainsmen's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, they will challenge Saratoga Springs at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
