The Kountze Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Warren Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kountze is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Kountze came up short against New Waverly and fell 20-7.
Meanwhile, Warren's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They blew past Trinity 34-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Warren just coasted through the last quarter.
Warren can attribute much of their success to Hunter Hollyfield, who rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Warren also got a significant boost from Slade Mashaw, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
New Waverly's win bumped their season record to 4-5 while Kountze's defeat dropped theirs to 3-6.
Kountze came up short against Warren when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 22-16. Thankfully for Kountze, Jeremy Smith (who rushed for 194 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
