The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers will challenge the Holly Hill Academy Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Calhoun Academy and Orangeburg Prep, and Orangeburg Prep kept the tradition alive. The Cavaliers fell 8-4 to the Indians last Thursday.
Patterson Arrant was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Arrant was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Sara Marshall Covington and Sherrilynn Shannon stepped up to the plate in a big way. Covington went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI, while Shannon went 1-for-3 with one home run. Chapel Hollingsworth also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Holly Hill Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They never let Andrew Jackson Academy get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory last Friday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Calhoun Academy, Holly Hill Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Milly Kate Prescott. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Prescott was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Abby Burleson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kaley Bell was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Holly Hill Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 11 consecutive contests.
Holly Hill Academy has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Calhoun Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Calhoun Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Holly Hill Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
