The South Fremont Cougars will challenge the Filer Wildcats at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Fremont's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Bear Lake.
Tayson Farley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Hammond, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for South Fremont: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Kierce Gold was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Filer made sure to put some runs up on the board against Snake River on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Panthers 14-3.
Like South Fremont, Filer also got a great game from a two-way player: Brett Paxton. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Paxton was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Bridger Phillips was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Aydyn Burns, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Filer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Snake River only posted an OBP of .296.
Filer is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for South Fremont, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Fremont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Filer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Fremont took their win against Filer when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 21-12 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
