If the Ponderosa Mustangs were riding high off their 67-29 takedown of the Evergreen Cougars last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ponderosa fell to Regis Jesuit 59-53. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ponderosa has scored all season.
Ponderosa lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Noah Wilhelm, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Wilhelm is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Karsteter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ponderosa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Regis Jesuit only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Regis Jesuit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eric Fiedler out in front who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Fiedler hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Lucas Dickinson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Ponderosa's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Regis Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ponderosa will take on Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castle View is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59 points per game. Regis Jesuit's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Rock Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Regis Jesuit likes a good challenge.
