Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Mayah Gross and Reagan Herron Lead Tucker County to Victory

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Tucker County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They secured a 37-33 W over the East Hardy Cougars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mountain Lions also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Tucker County was led to victory by Reagan Herron and Mayah Gross. Herron posted nine points and three steals, while Gross almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Those nine points gave Herron a new career-high.

Tucker County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive matches dating back to last season.

East Hardy's loss came despite strong showings from Brooklynn Tinnell and Chloe Miller. Tinnell dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards, while Miller put up eight points and 11 boards. That was a full 69.7% of East Hardy's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Tucker County's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for East Hardy, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Tucker County will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Union at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th. East Hardy also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Moorefield at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th. Moorefield will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something East Hardy surely won't give up without a fight.
