The West Central Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Tri-County Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Central comes in on three and Tri-County on eight.
On Tuesday, West Central got the win against Hebron by a conclusive 13-6. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Jalie Glasford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Sydney Mellon was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Brooklynn Lattimore was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
West Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hebron only posted an OBP of .294.
Meanwhile, Tri-County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Rensselaer Central on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Madilyn Nevitt's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauren Bledsoe, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Tri-County's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average this season. As for West Central, their record now sits at 9-4.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Tri-County struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Central couldn't quite finish off Tri-County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
