The Owosso Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the New Lothrop Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Owosso has three straight wins, New Lothrop has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Owosso was able to grind out a solid victory over Ovid-Elsie, taking the game 8-4.
Owosso got a great performance from Blake Binger as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Binger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eden Ackley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Cyril Thompson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Owosso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, New Lothrop didn't have quite enough to beat Fulton on Tuesday and fell 10-8.
Nathan Kuchar was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Connor Masterson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Owosso's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Lothrop, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-16.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Owosso has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Lothrop struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Owosso came out on top in a nail-biter against New Lothrop when the teams last played back in May of 2016, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
