The Hollins Royals will head out to challenge the Clearwater Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hollins is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Things were looking good for Hollins after they put the first points on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Pinellas Park by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Royals have suffered against the Patriots since April 11, 2019.
Hollins got a good showing from Kyle Morrill, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Morrill gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Aaron Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Trent Anderson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Clearwater sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Dunedin on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tornadoes.
Ty Woodring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Jackson King was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Clearwater's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Hollins, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hollins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clearwater struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hollins beat Clearwater 8-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Hollins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clearwater turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
