The DeMatha Stags are ranked highly in their home state, and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the St. John's Cadets. DeMatha fell to St. John's 61-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
DeMatha lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Malcolm Thomas, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Ashton (ace) Meeks, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for DeMatha and nudges their season record down to 15-5. As for St. John's, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their 16th straight at home.
DeMatha will take on Gonzaga at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. John's, they will head out on the road to square off against Bishop McNamara at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bishop McNamara knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully St. John's likes a good challenge.
