The team relied heavily on Nate Haven, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Poltrone, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Avon Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairview only posted an OBP of .323.
Meanwhile, Brunswick earned a 9-6 victory over Strongsville on Tuesday.
Elijah Poindexter was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Rauscher, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Brunswick has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Avon Lake, they pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Avon Lake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Brunswick struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avon Lake came up short against Brunswick when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Shoremen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
