Forbush and East Surry are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Forbush Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the East Surry Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact Forbush proved on Tuesday. They took down Surry Central 58-40.
Forbush's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Morgan Pinnix, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, and Meredith Tomko, who scored 19 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Tomko scored 15 or more points. Emily Eads was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, East Surry can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They breezed by South Stokes at home to the tune of 65-35. Given East Surry's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while South Stokes is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Forbush has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for East Surry, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-6.
Forbush came up short against East Surry in their previous meeting back in January, falling 50-45. Can Forbush avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
