Cypress Creek hasn't had much luck against Timber Creek recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bears will be taking part in a tournament against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Cypress Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 23-5 margin over University on Friday. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Britney Freitez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Illiana Bustamante was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Timber Creek and Lake Nona meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wolves put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 14-3 victory.
Gabbi Scott spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eva Martinez and Lauren Scott did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Lauren went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jenna Klein, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Timber Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Timber Creek has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Cypress Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.
Timber Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Cypress Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Timber Creek, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Cypress Creek keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Cypress Creek suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Timber Creek in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
