Two dominant guards in Jefriel Bacorro and Isaiah Cruz are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mills Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Capuchino Mustangs at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mills has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came out on top against Aragon by a score of 59-47 on Saturday. That's two games straight that Mills has won by exactly 12 points.
Mills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tanay Rai, who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rai has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bacorro, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Capuchino came into Wednesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Oceana on Wednesday as Capuchino made off with a 66-46 win. Capuchino pushed the score to 58-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sharks cut but never quite recovered from.
Mills' win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Capuchino, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-13.
Mills didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 42-36 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Capuchino's Dominic Vanden Berghe, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Mills still be able to contain Vanden Berghe? There's only one way to find out.
