The Sulligent Blue Devils will be taking part in a tournament against the Deshler Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sulligent has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Brooks hit Sulligent with a nine-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils lost 11-3 to the Lions.
Sulligent saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kallie Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deshler). They blew past Oakman 17-1 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Taylor Tittle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Deshler got a massive performance out of Makayla Willingham, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Willingham a new career-high. Havah Standridge was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Deshler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakman only posted a batting average of .188.
Sulligent now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Deshler, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sulligent hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Deshler struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sulligent skirted past Deshler 7-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
