Penns Manor had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Purchase Line Red Dragons by a score of 9-8. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked the Comets' highest-scoring contest to date.
Connor James put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dylan Kuzemchak was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Justin Vojtek was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Purchase Line, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.
Like Penns Manor, Purchase Line also got a great game from a two-way player: Christian Moyer. He struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Moyer also tossed a walk, which is notable because Purchase Line is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-8 otherwise. Moyer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Sheredy, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Purchase Line is undefeated when Sheredy posts three or more hits, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Devlan Kordish, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Penns Manor will venture away from home to square off against Ferndale at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Purchase Line does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
