Wakefield has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars on Tuesday. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Wakefield strolled past Bancroft-Rosalie with points to spare, taking the game 59-40.
Wakefield can attribute much of their success to Jacob Borg, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Cael Johnson, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Johnson posted two or more blocks. Jacob Birkley was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Meanwhile, Lyons-Decatur Northeast's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pender. While losing is never fun, Lyons-Decatur Northeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Pender is ranked 85th).
Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Wakefield against Lyons-Decatur Northeast in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 72-38 victory. With Wakefield ahead 36-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
