The Laguna Creek Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Kennedy Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Laguna Creek's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
Laguna Creek scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past McClatchy 88-45 at home. The win was just what Laguna Creek needed coming off of a 98-56 defeat in their prior game.
It was another big night for Kj Ramey, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Adaarion "AD" Strauthers was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Kennedy had to suffer through a rough 75-42 loss at the hands of Grant. While losing is never fun, Kennedy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Grant is ranked 166th).
Kennedy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordan Lawrence, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks, and Aharon Young who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Laguna Creek pushed their record up to 17-10 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Laguna Creek and Kennedy are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Laguna Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 61.4 points per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Laguna Creek strolled past Kennedy in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 68-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Laguna Creek since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
