New Palestine has gone 9-1 against Mt. Vernon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Dragons will host the Marauders at 6:00 p.m. New Palestine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
New Palestine is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Zionsville, who was ranked third at the time (New Palestine was ranked first). The Dragons walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Sadey Hughbanks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, New Palestine let Katie Hirschy and Maddie Engle run wild. Hirschy went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Engle went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Engle has posted since back in May of 2024. Payton Dye was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: New Palestine lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Frankton hit Mt. Vernon with a five-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Marauders lost 10-1 to the Eagles. The Marauders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
New Palestine pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Mt. Vernon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Palestine hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Mt. Vernon, though, as they've only averaged .212. Will they be able to contain New Palestine's hitters?
New Palestine took their victory against Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Marauders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
