Baseball Recap: IMG Academy Gold Comes Up Short

IMG Academy Gold suffered their closest loss since April 17, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Out-of-Door Academy Thunder by a score of 4-2. The Ascenders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunder apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

IMG Academy Gold got a good showing from Kevin Brinkworth, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brinkworth also tossed a walk, which is notable because IMG Academy Gold is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Bennett Burke was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Ryan Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

IMG Academy Gold has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. Out-of-Door Academy now has a winning record of 7-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. IMG Academy Gold will welcome The Villages Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Villages Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season. As for Out-of-Door Academy, they will host Community School of Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Community School of Naples 3.1, Out-of-Door Academy 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
