Emily Mathys made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Kingman Academy let Brady Sanders and Taylee Mote run wild. Sanders went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Mote scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That triple marked the first that Sanders hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Zubia, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Kingman Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glendale Prep Academy only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, Bagdad entered their tilt with Salome on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over the Frogs.
Tatum Jeans was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaylyn Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cailyn Blanton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Kingman Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Bagdad, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kingman Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .534. However, it's not like Bagdad struggles in that department as they've averaged .637. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kingman Academy suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Bagdad when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
