The Charleston Trojans on the road again on Saturday and play against the Carbondale Terriers at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
While Charleston couldn't quite beat Mt. Vernon on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 27-point loss they were dealt last Thursday. Charleston fell just short of Mt. Vernon by a score of 43-41. While losing is never fun, Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 44th).
Adam Rudibaugh put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 14 points. Tyler Oakley was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Carbondale suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 82-51 loss at the hands of East St. Louis. Carbondale has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Charleston has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Carbondale, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
