It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Apex Cougars can now relate to. They took a hard 51-35 fall against New Bern on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
When it comes to explaining why Apex lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayvion Danzy. Despite the final result, he rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Danzy is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last ten games he's played. Chase Klingemann was another key contributor, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
New Bern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emmanuel Johnson led the charge by throwing for 347 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes. Karvin Magwood and his 145 yards on the ground were also a key factor in New Bern's win.
Apex has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for New Bern, they pushed their record up to 6-6 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
Apex does not have any more games scheduled as of now. New Bern will be playing in front of their home fans against New Hanover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
