South Putnam is 0-7 against Edgewood since May of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
South Putnam lost 8-1 to Sullivan on Tuesday.
South Putnam saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenny McDaniel, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Edgewood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past West Vigo 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mason Marotz looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Edgewood is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Richey, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Carter Hayden, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.8.
Edgewood's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for South Putnam, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Putnam has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Putnam suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Edgewood in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
