The Rudder Rangers entered their tilt with the Brenham Cubs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Rudder sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 win over Brenham on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Rudder's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 607th, while Brenham is ranked 275th).
Rudder's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Campbell led the charge by scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Campbell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquise Martin, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Rudder now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Brenham, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 20-7.
Rudder will head out on the road to challenge Magnolia at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Brenham, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lake Creek at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Lake Creek's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
