Softball Recap: Jonesboro's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Jonesboro came into Thursday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past the Little Rock Southwest Gryphons 17-5 on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-9 on April 1st.

Katlyn Lynch made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Harper Harris was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylynn Calloway, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Jonesboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Little Rock Southwest only managed seven hits.

Jonesboro picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-11. As for Little Rock Southwest, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-16.

Jonesboro and Little Rock Southwest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arkansas Rankings. The Hurricane (ranked 156th) will meet Cabot (ranked fourth) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Little Rock Southwest will challenge Bryant at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (191 vs. 3).
