Flag Football Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Grossmont's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Grossmont got themselves on the board against Santana on Thursday, but Santana never followed suit. They blew past the Sultans 26-0. Considering the Foothillers have won nine contests by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Grossmont's victory came down to the chemistry between Marissa Farace and her top target Gabi Thomas. Farace threw for 119 yards and two TDs while Thomas picked up 30 receiving yards and one score. An impressive showing, but Thomas really ramped things up playing D: she picked up a sack and made seven total tackles.

Grossmont didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Leah Garcia and Ari Simpson were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Simpson is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last three games she's played. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Grossmont is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Santana, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grossmont will face off against Steele Canyon at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' defense has only allowed 7.4 points per game this season, so the Foothillers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Santana, they will challenge Helix at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
