Shelby County hasn't had much luck against Collins recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rockets will square off against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. Shelby County has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Shelby County is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They fell 16-11 to Portland Christian. Even if the Rockets couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Kaylee Cox was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Bailey Landes also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Collins). They blew past Jeffersontown 21-3 on Monday. While the Titans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Breanna Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Morris was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Collins let Betsy England and Brooke Peterman run wild. England went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Peterman went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Peterman a new career-high. Peyton Haverly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Collins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Collins has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Shelby County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Everything went Shelby County's way against Collins in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Shelby County made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
