3A Region II District 16 recap October 22, 2013
Fans got a thrill when ANDREW BLACK and GABRIEL ROBINSON connected against Bullard. The connection went for 79 yards, the longest such play in 3A Region II District 16 this season.
Henderson scaled the state rankings by moving to 322 from 389 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lions climbed the ranks as a result of besting Spring Hill 28-23.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Jacob Rooney and Waylon McFadin proved to be unstoppable against Henderson, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rooney threw for 157 yards and 1 touchdown and McFadin had 85 yards receiving. Michael Spurrier helped Spring Hill's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 65 yards.
BLACK was a passing and rushing force as Chapel Hill defeated the Panthers. He completed 5 passes for 106 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 140 yards.
Going into this week's game against Spring Hill, Gilmer's Tanner Barr needs 22 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, Barr has thrown for 1,978 yards with 25 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Buckeyes and Mark Sartain's team face off next week.
A big matchup in 3A Region II District 16 this week will be when Kilgore takes on the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are in first place, while Chapel Hill is in third place.
Phil Castles' team and the Panthers played the most contested game in the league this week, with Phil Castles' team eventually emerging with a 28-23 victory.
