If the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes were feeling good off their 51-9 takedown of the Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech Griffins last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cape Hatteras took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bear Grass Charter on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Cape Hatteras of the 52-49 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Cape Hatteras had strong showings from Paizley Schultz, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, and Kylie Philips, who scored 12 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Schultz scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Bryan, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Bear Grass Charter's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carolina Harrell, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Harrell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hylee (Al) Jarrett, who scored 13 points.
Cape Hatteras bumped their record down to 7-6 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Bear Grass Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Cape Hatteras will be playing at home against Mattamuskeet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bear Grass Charter, they will head out on the road to take on Ocracoke at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ocracoke is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
