Victory Christian found their leader in sophomore Marissa Sloan, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten boards. Sloan is becoming a predictor of Victory Christian's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 7-3 (and 2-5 when she doesn't). Brooke Sanders was another key player, putting up eight points.
Meanwhile, Woodland Baptist Christian entered their tilt with Shining Light Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by a 49-23 margin over the Knights. With the Eagles ahead 31-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Victory Christian better keep an eye on Tabitha Airo. She was instrumental in Woodland Baptist Christian's win, going 5-for-12 to rack up 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The contest was Airo's third in a row with at least 18 points.
Woodland Baptist Christian pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.7 points over those games. As for Victory Christian, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Victory Christian has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 38.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Woodland Baptist Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 5.3 boards.
