The high school football season in Arkansas came to a close over the weekend.
Bryant was among the winners, beating
Bentonville in the Class 7A state championship game. That victory helped propel the Hornets to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Bryant (12-0) wrapped up an undefeated season and won its fifth consecutive state title under head coach Buck James. The Hornets trailed 7-0 against No. 3 Bentonville before junior quarterback
Gideon Motes entered the game. Motes threw four touchdown passes and was named MVP.
Coming in at No. 4 is
Pulaski Academy (Little Rock), which beat No. 8
Greenwood in the Class 6A title game 42-35. The Bruins have gone 50-4 over the last four years, winning a state crown in each of those seasons.
Parkview (Little Rock) won its first state championship since 1978 and finished No. 5. The Patriots trailed No. 7
Shiloh Christian (Springdale) at the end of the first quarter before winning 31-21.
